Learn to Dance
Dance has been a universal language in human experience through generations and brings together some basic elements of humanity. Its creative act, fine-tuned movement and collaborative approach certainly impacts the way we think and interact with one another.
At Ycats our sessions are designed not just to enhance technique and performance among our members; but to build necessary life skills. Classes typically begin with devotion and discussions, followed by full-body warm-up combining pilates and technical exercises; and culminates with a blend of expressive choreography designed to challenge dancers both physically and artistically.
The programmes for our Pre-Junior and Junior groups focus on creative movement, motor skills, loco-motor skills, basic modern vocabulary , and dance etiquette; while fostering a joy of movement through dance,.
Our Intermediate and senior programmes incorporate moderate to extensive repetition and strength building, complemented with varying styles of modern and contemporary dance technique and creative choreography.
Our choice of music and routines are age-appropriate and classes may focus on one genre of dance or include a fusion of styles such as contemporary, lyrical, Afro/Caribbean folk, hip hop and Jamaican dancehall/reggae.
While the Covid-19 pandemic is ongoing, our schedule is flexible and may include online classes.
Members and guests have the opportunity to learn through our “Summerize” dance workshops, where they can enjoy the following programmes:
- Fierce Fusion – A fusion of ballet, modern, and lyrical dance techniques, focusing on the use of the body, space, energy, time, and relationships, to create fierce and expressive contemporary choreography.
- All that Jazz – A fun-filled session in which participants learn trendy dance steps, while building strength and flexibility.
- Rhythm of the Drums – Electrifying African and Caribbean movements fused with modern technique depicting cultural ethnicity.
- Reggaeton – A stylistic and energetic combination of Jamaican dance hall with hip hop or other commercial styles.
